Sampai saat ini (30/03/2020) sudah terdapat 1414 kasus positif Covid-19 di Indonesia dengan 75 pasien dinyatakan sembuh, dan 122 kasus meninggal (8,6%). Angka kematian ini lebih tinggi dibandingkan rata-rata kasus Covid-19 di negara lain. Jumlah kasus Covid-19 terjadi peningkatan cepat dibandingkan dengan 2 Maret 2020 dimana terdapat 2 kasus positif di Indonesia.
Dekan Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia (FKUI), selaku Koordinator AHS UI, Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, SpPD-KGEH, MMB, mengatakan bahwa FKUI telah siap membantu pemerintah untuk menghadapi kasus Covid-19 ini.
Sejak pertama kali kasus Covid-19 muncul di negara selain Cina, FKUI telah melakukan upaya edukasi kepada masyarakat dengan membuat seminar awam “Info Sehat untuk Anda: Wabah Coronavirus; Status Terakhir di Indonesia” pada tanggal 30 Januari 2020 di Auditorium IMERI lt. 3. Seminar tersebut mendatangkan pakar FKUI dari Departemen Mikrobiologi Klinik FKUI-RSCM, dr. R. Fera Ibrahim, MSc, SpMK(K), PhD dan pakar Infeksi dari Departemen Pulmonologi dan Kedokteran Respirasi FKUI-RSCM, Dr. dr. Erlina Burhan, MSc, SpP(K), yang membahas tentang Covid-19 secara umum dan bagaimana cara pencegahannya.
Kegiatan edukasi pun dilanjutkan dengan menggelar seminar awam yang kedua pada hari Kamis 5 Maret 2020 bertempat di Ruang Senat Akademik Fakultas FKUI, yang membahas lebih lanjut dari sisi mikrobiologi terkait spesimen dengan narasumber dr. R. Fera Ibrahim, MSc, SpMK(K), PhD dan pakar Kedokteran Okupasi dari Departemen Ilmu Kedokteran Komunitas FKUI, selaku Ketua K3L FKUI, Dr. dr. Dewi Sumaryani Soemarko, MS, SpOk yang memaparkan mengenai cara pencegahan Covid-19 di tempat kerja, kebijakan perusahaan pada kasus COVID-19 ini, dan langkah-langkah-langkah yang tepat jika terdapat kasus tersebut di tempat kerja.
