Mulai 1 Juli 2018, Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) resmi mengemban tanggung jawab sebagai tuan rumah regional office The Association of Academic Health Centers Internasional (AAHCI) untuk wilayah Asia Tenggara. Posisi ini sebelumnya telah diemban oleh National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapura.
Regional office AAHCI dibentuk untuk memfasilitasi wilayah yang secara geografis berkaitan untuk tetap berintegrasi dengan kantor pusat AAHCI yang terletak di Washington DC, Amerika Serikat. Selain di Asia Tenggara, AAHCI memiliki kantor regional di wilayah lain seperti kawasan Eropa, Amerika Latin, Timur Tengah dan Afrika Utara.
Dekan FKUI Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, SpPD-KGEH, MMB akan bertindak sebagai Regional Ambassador, sementara itu Dr. dr. Budi Iman Santoso, SpOG(K), MPH akan bertindak sebagai Regional Ambassador dan kepala kantor wilayah AAHCI Asia Tenggara.

“Kami sangat antusias pada kesempatan yang diberikan oleh AAHCI kepada FKUI untuk menjadi AAHCI Southeast Asia Regional Office. Saya, sebagai dekan, berterima kasih kepada AAHCI dan NUS atas dukungan keduanya kepada FKUI selama masa transisi ini,” ujar Dekan, “AAHCI merupakan institusi yang sangat penting dalam mendukung perkembangan sistem kesehatan akademik bagi Universitas Indonesia dan pendidikan kedokteran di FKUI. Melalui tanggung jawab sebagai AAHCI Southeast Asia Regional Office, akan menjadi lebih mudah bagi kami untuk mendapatkan kesempatan belajar dan berbagi informasi,” lanjutnya.
Lebih jauh Dekan mengatakan bahwa dengan ditunjuknya FKUI sebagai AAHCI Southeast Asia Regional Office akan mendatangkan banyak manfaat bagi kemajuan dunia pendidikan kedokteran di Asia Tenggara, khususnya Indonesia.
Saya berharap dengan kehadiran regional office AAHCI di Indonesia, akan membuka jalan bagi anggota AAHCI lainnya, khususnya di Indonesia, untuk dapat mengembangkan Academic Health System di universitasnya masing-masing
Regional Ambassador AAHCI Southeast Asia, dr. Budi Iman Santoso, mengatakan bahwa berbagai tantangan yang ada dalam dunia kesehatan dan pendidikan kedokteran saat ini dapat mendorong pembentukan pusat-pusat kesehatan berskala internasional, terutama bagi anggota yang berasal dari negara-negara berkembang di Asia Tenggara. “Saya berharap kita (anggota AAHCI Southeast Asia) dapat mencapai cita-cita tersebut secara bersama-sama, karena tindakan sekecil apapun dapat memberikan perubahan yang berarti bagi kesejahteraan manusia di seluruh dunia,” paparnya.
